Model IL

Robust tank sensor for continuous Brix monitoring in crystallization and evaporation pipeline applications. Built to withstand demanding conditions with high temperatures. Extended measurement range (0-99°Brix) covers complete process span from low to high concentrations.

Tank and Vessel Sensor for Brix, Total Solids & Density Measurement

The Model IL tank sensor provides continuous Brix, total solids, and density measurement directly inside process tanks and vessels. Installed through a side or top nozzle, the sensor measures bulk product properties without requiring bypass loops or sample extraction.

Designed for food & beverage, sugar, and industrial applications where in-tank visibility is essential for batch control, quality monitoring, and process optimization.

What is the Inmec Model IL?

The Model IL is a digital microwave sensor for continuous Brix, total solids and density measurement inside process tanks and vessels. It installs through a side or top nozzle and measures the bulk product directly, without bypass loops or sample extraction.

Can the Model IL measure massecuite in vacuum pans?

Yes. The 0–99 % measurement range covers the whole strike, from syrup feed to final massecuite at 91–98 °Bx, and the reading stays stable through strikes of 2–8 hours. The seeding point depends on the process. In one documented vacuum pan installation, the Model IL repeated seeding at the same 79.5 °Bx point over nine consecutive cycles.

Does coating or buildup affect the Model IL measurement?

No. The digital microwave measurement extends into the product volume, so the signal stays stable when coating or buildup on the sensor surface is part of normal operation, as in crystallizers, evaporators and molasses tanks.

When should I choose the Inmec Ci instead of the Model IL?

The Model IL is the right choice where product purity is stable and conductivity stays within 13 mS/cm. For low-purity or variable-purity streams and products with higher conductivity, the Inmec Ci combines the same total solids measurement with ionic activity detection for a more accurate value.

What is the difference between the Model IL and the pipeline sensors?

The Model IL measures inside tanks, vessels and large pipelines, with a range of 0–99 %. The pipeline models P2–P10 install in fully filled process pipelines from 2 to 10 inches and measure 0–95 %. All use the same digital microwave measurement.

How is the Model IL installed?

The standard installation is a Union-L 2-bolt coupling (76.1 × 2.9 mm) with a weld ferrule on the tank wall or a large pipeline. Custom length weld ferrules are available, and optional bolt flange adapters to DIN and ANSI standards let the sensor use existing nozzles.

Does the Model IL need a separate transmitter?

No. All signal processing takes place in the sensor itself. It provides 4–20 mA outputs for total solids and temperature, active and isolated, with a maximum load of 750 Ω, directly to the PLC or DCS.

What are the measurement range and accuracy of the Model IL?

The measurement range is 0–99 % Brix or total solids, factory configured to the customer’s specific total solids or density range. Accuracy and repeatability are ±0.01 % TS, sensitivity is ±0.001 % TS and measuring resolution is 0.01 % TS.

What process conditions does the Model IL handle?

The Model IL operates at pH 3–11 and 0–140 °C, with an AISI 316L sensor body. A process pressure of at least 1.5 bar is recommended to avoid free air at the sensor.

Which applications is the Model IL used for?

In sugar and sweetener production the Model IL is used in crystallizers, evaporators, clarifiers, melters and molasses. In food and beverage it is used for blending and mixing, Brix stabilizing, evaporator control and fermentation infeed. Industrial uses include sludge before dewatering, slurry total solids control, starch, latex and battery anode and cathode slurries.

What warranty does the Model IL have?

The Model IL comes with a 3-year warranty, reflecting its long-term stability in continuous industrial operation.
