A True Multi-Sensor — Combining Newly Developed, Integrated Measuring Capabilities

The Inmec Ci -sensor combines our proven microwave-based Total Solids measurement with an integrated capability for detecting the ionic activity of the material being measured. An AC-driven function captures the slurry’s electrochemical behaviour for internal use by the sensor, complementing the primary measurement with a deeper characterization of the material.
Ionic activity is recognized as a key parameter in characterizing materials throughout industrial processes, offering insight that complements traditional concentration measurements. Our core focus is delivering reliable measurement solutions for crystallization and other critical processes in sugar mills, helping producers monitor and optimize their operations with greater precision.

The Inmec Ci is an inline sensor that combines Inmec’s proven digital microwave total solids measurement with integrated ionic activity detection in a single device. The combined measurement gives a more reliable Brix and total solids value in sugar crystallization and other processes where the composition of the product varies.
Sugar juice contains more than sucrose. Its dissolved solids also include ionically active components such as K⁺, Na⁺, Cl⁻ and organic acid salts. When the purity of the incoming juice changes, a Brix-only reading can shift, which leads to seeding away from the target supersaturation point. Measuring ionic activity alongside total solids lets the sensor account for that variation.
The Model IL is the right choice where juice purity is stable, and it measures massecuite Brix reliably throughout the strike. The Inmec Ci is designed for low-purity or variable-purity streams and products with high conductivity, where combining total solids with ionic activity gives a more accurate value for seeding and pan control.
An integrated ionic detector uses an AC-driven function to capture the electrochemical behaviour of the product. Its signal is combined with the digital microwave total solids measurement by a multivariable algorithm that runs inside the sensor, so no separate processing unit or model tuning is needed.
No. All signal processing takes place in the sensor itself. It provides 4–20 mA outputs for total solids and temperature, active and isolated, with a maximum load of 750 Ω, directly to the PLC or DCS.
In sugar and sweetener production the Ci is used in crystallizers, clarifiers, evaporators, melters and molasses. Outside sugar it is used for total solids measurement in industrial sludge before dewatering, slurry total solids control, starch and latex.
The measurement range is 0–95 % total solids. Accuracy and repeatability are ±0.01 % TS, sensitivity is ±0.001 % TS and measuring resolution is 0.01 % TS.
The Ci operates at pH 3–11 and 0–140 °C, with an AISI 316L sensor body. A process pressure of at least 1.5 bar is recommended to avoid free air at the sensor. The process fitting is a Union-L 2-bolt coupling for 114.3 × 3.6 mm pipe.
No. The measurement extends into the product volume, so the signal stays stable when coating or buildup on the sensor surface is part of normal operation, as is common in crystallizers and evaporators.
The Inmec Ci comes with a 3-year warranty, reflecting its long-term stability in continuous industrial operation.
